Planning + Feasibility Studies

Good planning is essential for clients to make informed and confident decisions. Good planning is the starting point for the design and construction processes. Planning includes a number of activities. Most significantly, it includes research, analysis, and strategic thinking in order to help plan the best path forward.

A few examples: investigations regarding the best options for how to develop and subdivide a property; assessing development potential; detailed zoning analysis done to outlay the limitations and advantages of a particular property; making a master plan for a property or multi-stage project; and research and analysis about the merits of renovating an existing building or building a new one.

Regardless of the scenario, gdp can aid in assessment and then produce documents which detail the data in a clear and understandable manner in both drawn and written form.

Architectural Services

The high quality of our design work is reflected in the high quality of documents we produce to realize it. Attention to the full range of detail is critical to a project’s success through its development and approvals, and ultimately its construction. The character of our designs falls across a full spectrum of aesthetic realms. We develop a project’s aesthetic from its program, site, and material choices; with the prime determination coming from the needs of the client being served. We focus our attention on the unique circumstances of each individual project be it big or small, expensive or modest, modern or traditional, exotic or familiar.

Our architectural services usually begin in the early planning stages of a project, continue through project development and the generation of construction documents, and include field services during the course of building construction.

Interior Design

We provide full interior design services as either a stand-alone project, or as part of a larger design project.

Interior Design services can include:

* space planning

* material and finish type selection: flooring, tile, paint, colour schemes etc., along with tile layouts and related construction details

* lighting specification and layout

* plumbing fixture specification and layout

* appliance selection

* signage design

* reviewing the work of fabricators of interior components such as cabinetry/millwork, metalwork, stonework or any other specialized work required of an offsite workshop

Landscape Design

It is often hard to distinguish where the design of a building ends and where the landscape surrounding it begins. We see the links between the two as essential to a project’s success. This is why we typically incorporate landscape design and the design of outdoor spaces into our design projects.

As well, we design projects which consist of purely built exterior spaces. The structuring of exterior spaces and areas of occupancy along with landscape is an equally rewarding process and is one which can enrich the liveability of both the exterior setting and the building proper. This does not mean that we think that landscapes need to be modified or articulated in major or obtrusive ways. Some projects warrant a great deal of landscape design, but most simply need careful attention (when designing the building) and appropriate levels of intervention.
