Richmond Contemporary
City of Richmond, Metro VancouverA full renovation of a dated 1990’s home with traditional features resulting in a transformation into a clean, open contemporary oasis for a Richmond family. The existing building contained awkward spaces in awkward relationships, all of which were divided up into overly small and isolating traditionally defined rooms. The public areas of the home were gutted and reconfigured. Through structural redesign, the removal of interior partitions and columns, and the introduction of an operable glass wall, the spaces were opened up to each other and to the exterior. The kitchen is now open to the ongoing life of the house. The kitchen detailing is extended into other spaces through built-in cabinetry and furniture, knitting the separate functions together into a varied but unified whole. Storage and useable space have been maximized throughout by the innovative integration of cabinetry.
